FAQ
What is GAT?
Global Alpha Training (GAT) is localised training delivered in a localised style. It has been designed to equip and empower people from churches that run and love Alpha courses to train others where there is a training need.
Where do GAT events take place?
Teams go wherever there is a training need around the world, at home or abroad. Other teams will partner with missionary contacts in a particular region to coordinate a GAT event, sometimes in conjunction with other short term mission activities.
How do I put together the talks?
Good news - the talks are put together for you and can be downloaded upon registering to participate on an event. GAT could be called 'Alpha Training in a Suitcase", as GAT teams are provided with training, programmes and transcripts of the GAT talks. All you need to do is add your experience and passion!
How do I access the talks?
You will be given the link to the talks when you have been matched to a team and trained.
Why don't the demonstration talks have slides?
Slides are not used on Alpha courses, so they aren't included in the demonstration talks.
Can I change the slides?
No. It is important that you use the provided slides and you may not change the content. This is because the slides may be translated. You can, however, include your own stories and testimonies in the transcripts.
Who can go on a GAT?
Anyone who has participated on Alpha and has an interest in training others to run Alpha can participate on a GAT.
How can we fundraise for our GAT event?
This is an opportunity for you and your team to be creative! From sending out letters to family and friends, to sponsoring a cultural night with ethnic food and dancing, or a speed dating evening, teams have found many different ways to raise money for their trips.
What if we fundraise more than we target for our GAT event?
We encourage teams to raise over their own expenses at least £500 to help pay for the local costs. Some teams who have raised above and beyond their budgeted amount have donated the money to pay for all of the local costs or have saved the money for a future GAT that they might want to do.
What address do I put on my visa application if I haven't booked accommodation yet?
We recommend that you put the name and address of your local coordinator.
What immunizations do I need before going on my GAT?
Required immunizations will vary depending on the destination country. Please check with your local doctor/nurse. There are also many online resources that outline required and suggested immunizations for countries.
Is there any follow up training for delegates once we finish the GAT?
During 2010 we are updating post GAT follow up training. This is training which the people you train will use to train up their course leaders, speakers, host and helpers. This will be in the same format as the GAT talk transcripts and will make it as easy as possible for people to train up their teams.
Can I take my children on my GAT?
We recommend not, as you will be busy preparing and delivering your talks and childcare won't be available at the event.
How can I sign up to participate on a GAT?
Please register your team online.
